Understanding structural and functional performance of a pavement system is critical. The preservation of a pavement depends on a sole fundamental that the existing pavement is structurally sound and there is no hidden distress within it. Therefore, the success of Microsurfacing process depends on what kind of surface it is being applied on.

Microsurfacing, as name indicates is a lesser thickness (4-8 mm) pavement preservation technique. The micro-surfacing life can be 4 months -5 years depending on various factors. However, doing micro-surfacing is not that simple as it looks to be.

First of all, Microsurfacing needs a good understanding on type of aggregate gradation, emulsion, and a rigorous quality control mechanism. There has to be a systematic SOP from selection to performance. Quality control and testing is of supreme importance in such a process. The other important aspect is manpower- how trained they are, what is their experience matters. Merely running a machine will not make a Microsurfacing project a success.
